Solar

As long as the sun keeps shining, we can harness its power continuously without depleting it. Solar  provides a more predictable energy output than wind, and at a much lower capital cost than geothermal. It's soundless and panels are easily maintained, just keep them clean them and in good physical condition and they'll continue working for up to 25 years. Solar is also fully scalable and relatively easy to install making it more accessible everywhere people need to go.​​​​

Wind

British Columbia has some of the best wind resources in Canada. On a large scale and when situated off-shore, wind generates the most power of these three, is the most efficient, and is also scalable. On the down-side, wind turbines require complex maintenance and have a higher overall operating cost. They can also be very noisy and distracting in more urban environments. Smaller scale, land based turbines are becoming more economically viable but are very location specific.​

Geothermal

Though BC doesn't currently have a geothermal plant of it's own, sixteen potential sites have been identified and exploration is ongoing. Geothermal uses the earth's internal heat to generate electricity but it's only accessible through drilling deep into the earth. It also comes with a much higher capital cost than solar due to the overall size and complex infrastructure required. Building a large geothermal plant is also disruptive to area ecosystems and displaces wildlife.
